Apache License 2.0¶
All Openwater software is licensed under Apache License 2.0.
Why Apache 2.0?¶
- Permissive: Commercial use allowed
- Patent protection: Explicit patent grant
- Clinical translation: Enables FDA approval
- Community standard: Used by 3D Slicer and medical imaging ecosystem
License Transition¶
We transitioned from AGPL 3.0 to Apache 2.0 in 2025 to remove barriers for clinical adoption.
Hardware Licenses¶
Hardware designs released under permissive open-source licenses (CC-BY-SA or Apache 2.0).
